This representative piece of furniture was created in northern Germany around 1810 for a manor house or a castle.

 

It served for lunch rest, but also shows guests that the owners enjoy the privilege of being able to rest during the day, and do not have to devote the whole day to work.

 

The formal template for this provided an old Egyptian bed from the excavations of the pyramids, which also rests on 4 animal feet (panther feet). Our day rest bed are lion legs with arkanthus tendrils, which are probably carved from linden, primed with a chalk and are originally gold-plated or green.

 

Background: After the return of Napoleon Bonaparte from his Egyptian expedition in 1801, the first great wave of Egyptomania began throughout Europe, which is also clearly reflected in the bed of rest present here.

 

The furniture is completely restored, newly upholstered, newly covered and newly polished by hand shellac, the legs are preserved in the original surface.
