International Bureau Plat

 Jacob Desmalter Paris

for

T. Willson London

Here I show a Bureau Plat Partner Desk, which already around 1820 proves the international activity of London & Paris dealers & producers.

The desk presented here is stamped on the drawer with T. Willson 68 Great Queensstreen London,

The lockers are also English patents.

T. Willson himself was not a producer, but a dealer who stamped the furniture he offered. cf. https://bifmo.furniturehistorysociety.org/entry/willson-thomas-1799-1854.

The Bureau Plat was made by Jacob Desmalter Paris, which is a picture of a desk with identical legs in

"Ledoux-Lebard, Denise: Le mobilier français du XIXe siècle. Dictionnaire des ébénistes et menudoisiers S. "

As well as the writing furniture as Bureau Plat, which was not common in England at that time, but is a typical French piece of furniture.

I assume that T. Willson had furniture produced in Paris by Jacob Desmalter as Partner Bureau Plat and either delivered the locks or installed them in England.

This shows impressively how International the economic relations in Europe were in the early 19th century.

Most recently, this piece of furniture stood in a law firm in Munich.

All in all, a very impressive Bureau Plat Partner desk with an interesting history, which covers the International Trade Relations around 1820.
